Genealogy Night

Saturday, February 6, 2016 - 5:00pm
315 West Oak Avenue Round Room

The public library will host Genealogy Night on Saturday, February 6th from 5 until 10 p.m.  "This event is a great chance for geneaologists of all experience levels to come in for research.  We will have researchers from the Genealogy Society of Craighead County to help those who are less experienced with their genealogy needs," said Elizabeth Duryea.  There will be different researchers stationed throughout the building to help with your research needs.  You are welcome to  use one of the public computers or bring a laptop or tablet computer to do you research.

The library offers free access to geneaology database Ancestry for free as long as you are inside the library.  Other services are available for use as well via the library website that you can access with your library card.  Fold3 can be used to help with military record searches and Heritage Quest is for census records and other genealogy related searches.  Both of these databases can be accessed on your home computer.  "If you are looking for obituaries, we have the Jonesboro Sun on microfilm dating back to the 1800s. To make your search easier, we have the Jonesboro Sun Deaths and Obituaries Index available online to find the exact page of whoever you are looking for thanks to the work of the Genealogy Society," said Duryea.

This event will also have a volunteer potluck.  If you wish to partake in the potluck, please bring something to share.
