Residents of the City of Jonesboro do not have to pay for disposal unless they have construction material or tires if they bring more than four (4) passenger tires per year.  A half-cent sales tax collected by the City pays for residential sanitation service.  Until February 1, 2009, the minimum charge is $8.00 plus 7% sales tax for up to 600 pounds unloaded.  Anything over 600 pounds is pro-rated at $26.00 per ton plus tax.  Starting February 1, 2009, rates will be adjusted each year according to the National Consumer Price Index which is released in January.
